Vytautas Stankevičius was an active scientist, the author of more than 200 scientific papers and inventions, who left a significant imprint on the history of the University.
Prof. habil. Dr. Vytautas Stankevičius was born in Prienai on September 29, 1933. Since 1959 he worked in research and scientific work. He was the head of the Laboratory of Thermal Physics at the Institute of Architecture and Construction. Furthermore, he was professor at the Institute of Architecture and Construction in Kaunas university of Technology; Expert of the Scientific Council; Member of the Technological Sciences Section of the Lithuanian Science Prize Committee for 9 intermittent terms, including the last 3 years as Section president. In addition, Vytautas Stankevičius has been member of the Association for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (Russia); a chairman of the Institute of Architecture and Construction; Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of “Civil Engineering and Management” of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions.
Stankevičius has led the following areas of research: heat savings in buildings; climatic resistance of the outer layers of building walls. He has also produced 15 PhDs and has been involved in the work of many doctoral and habilitation committees.
At his initiative, the quality of the tests carried out in the Laboratory of Thermal Physics has been changed: new modern testing equipment has been purchased or manufactured and ISO-compliant testing methods has been adopted. In 2001, Lithuanian National Accreditation Bureau, recognizing high quality of laboratory tests, issued and accreditation certificate to the Laboratory of Thermal Physics.
